Why One Million Trees?
It’s just a good idea to plant trees. Trees do so much for us. They absorb carbon dioxide, store the carbon and exhale oxygen. According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, “One acre of forest absorbs six tons of carbon dioxide and puts out four tons of oxygen. That is enough to meet the annual needs of 18 people.”
We all do things that eat up energy and natural resources. When we do, we create pollution. And with Memphis/Shelby County being such a prominent transportation throughway, we get more than our fair share of pollution from outside sources.
One Million Trees Shelby Farms Park offers a solution to that problem. Our simple, affordable remedy is to help you improve your carbon footprint (and the footprint of others) by planting trees.
A single, $50 donation can make a big difference. But if you can, consider giving more. You can make that choice on our donation page.
Your donation also helps the Shelby Farms Park Conservancy enact our ambitious transformation of America’s largest urban park. Starting with a trailblazing, new Greenline connecting the park to Midtown, a one-of-a-kind woodland discovery playground and a much-needed Wolf River pedestrian bridge, the park will undergo an amazing metamorphosis. All without losing its trademark open spaces.
